LADIA is planning a new event this year in the form of an ‘open garden’ weekend, on 18-19th June 2022.
Loughgall has a strong horticultural tradition. It is the heart of the Co. Armagh’s commercial apple orchards have a center dedicated to scientific research on growing plants and mushrooms, and just a mile away from the village is the HQ of Northern Ireland’s largest vegetable growing and wholesaling enterprise. The village has won a series of awards in “best kept” and “floral display” competitions.
But you knew all about this anyway, didn’t you?
Now we have something different to offer. About 20 gardens will be open for visiting from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, June 18th, and 2-5 pm on the afternoon of Sunday, June 19th.
In pre-covid years, we held a competition with prizes for the best floral displays visible from the street. We thought it was time to show some of the fascinating areas not immediately visible and to open up our ‘secret’ gardens for a couple of days. This is both to raise funds for charities and to celebrate the beauty of our village, unseen as well as seen.
The organizations benefitting will be the Children’s Heartbeat Trust, St Lukes’ Parish Church, and Loughgall and District Improvement Association.
Other attractions:
- Refreshments
- Plant stall
- Vintage car display
- Poultry and goats
- Hedgehog rescue
- Bric-a-brac
- and perhaps more ?
Tickets bought on the day will cost £6 per head and will entitle you to visit as many of the gardens as you chose. Each will come with a map and a list of gardens. Accompanied under-16s will be free. We plan to sell tickets in advance for the reduced price of £4.
More details to follow. Meanwhile, take a look at a taster of what might be on offer in our picture gallery. If you have any urgent queries, ask one of the organizing group:
